I Did Facial Yoga Every Morning For 28 Days — My Face Lifted Without Any Product Or Treatment!
I discovered facial yoga during the most vain google search of my life! 😅
It was late February and I was looking at photos from a family function comparing how I looked at 18 versus 20 and noticing — with genuine concern — that my face looked slightly less defined than it had two years earlier!
At 20! I was noticing facial changes at 20!
I typed "how to lift face naturally" into Google expecting skincare recommendations and instead found facial yoga — a practice of specific exercises targeting the 57 muscles in the human face that most people never consciously exercise in their entire lives!
The logic was immediately compelling! We exercise our body to maintain muscle tone and lift! Why would the face be different? And yet nobody treats facial muscles with the same intentionality they give body muscles!
The Science Behind Facial Yoga 🔬
The face contains 57 muscles — more per square inch than any other area of the human body! These muscles attach directly to skin rather than bone as body muscles do — which means their tone directly affects skin position and appearance!
When facial muscles are strong and toned they hold skin upright against gravity! When they are weak or atrophied from disuse gravity wins — creating the sagging, drooping and loss of definition that we associate with aging!
A landmark study published in JAMA Dermatology in 2018 followed women aged 40-65 practicing facial exercises for 20 weeks! Dermatologist evaluators — blind to which participants had been exercising — rated participants as appearing approximately three years younger at study end than at beginning!
Three years younger from exercises! In 20 weeks! With zero products!
The primary mechanism — increased muscle volume in facial muscles plumps skin from beneath in a way that no topical product can replicate because products work on skin surface while muscle development works from underneath!
The Exercises That Produced My Results:
I practiced a specific sequence every morning — total time approximately eight minutes!
Exercise 1 — The Cheek Lifter (2 minutes):
Open mouth into O shape! Place upper lip over upper teeth! Smile to lift cheek muscles upward! Place index fingers lightly on top of cheeks! Release cheek muscles downward then lift back up!
Repeat 10 times then hold the lifted position for 20 seconds!
This exercise directly targets the zygomaticus major — the muscle responsible for the high cheekbone appearance! Strengthening it lifts the cheek pad upward creating the defined cheekbone structure that is lost when this muscle weakens!
Exercise 2 — The Jawline Definer (2 minutes):
Tilt head back to look at ceiling! Push lower jaw forward until you feel stretch along jawline! Smile with corners of mouth! Hold 5 seconds, release!
Repeat 10 times!
This targets the platysma — the large muscle running from chest to jaw — and the masseter! Strengthening these creates the jaw definition and neck toning that gives a youthful jawline!
Exercise 3 — The Eye Opener (1 minute):
Place index finger under each eyebrow! Push eyebrows up gently with fingers while simultaneously pulling eyes down by squinting against the upward pressure! Hold tension 10 seconds, release!
Repeat 6 times!
This targets the orbicularis oculi and frontalis — muscles around eyes and forehead! The exercise lifts the hooded quality that develops over the eye area and strengthens muscles that prevent eyebrow descent!
Exercise 4 — The Lip Plumper (1 minute):
Close mouth! Suck cheeks inward as if making fish face! Hold 5 seconds! Release and push lips outward pressing against inside of lips with tongue simultaneously! Hold 5 seconds!
Repeat 8 times!
This targets the orbicularis oris — the circular muscle surrounding the mouth! Strengthening it maintains lip fullness and reduces the vertical lines above the lip that develop with muscle weakness!
Exercise 5 — The Full Face Warm Down (2 minutes):
Open mouth as wide as possible! Stick tongue out toward chin as far as possible! Hold 5 seconds! Release!
Then scrunch entire face as tightly as possible — squeeze everything! Hold 5 seconds! Release and open everything simultaneously!
Repeat full sequence 5 times!
This releases tension accumulated in facial muscles from daily expressions and stress — tension that contributes to the fixed expression lines that become permanent with age!
Week By Week Results:
Week 1 — Soreness!
My face was genuinely sore after the first three sessions! Muscles that had never been intentionally exercised were experiencing their first workout!
This soreness was the first indication that the exercises were genuinely working muscles that had been dormant! You cannot feel sore unless muscles are being challenged!
Week 2 — First Changes:
My mother noticed something on day 11 — she said my face looked "fresh" when I had not slept particularly well! I had been feeling the effects of poor sleep on my face for years and this was the first time it had not shown!
The increased muscle tone was beginning to support skin in a way that reduced the sunken tired appearance that poor sleep typically creates!
Week 3 — Visible Difference:
A college photograph taken at week 3 showed something that I compared carefully against a similar photo from week 1 — the area beneath my cheekbones appeared slightly more defined and my jawline appeared slightly cleaner!
Changes too subtle for others to necessarily notice but photographically measurable!
Week 4 — The Confirmation:
My aunt who visits monthly and pays close attention to appearance said "you look different! Did you change your hair?" When I said no she said "something is different with your face! You look very fresh!"
She identified the change without being able to name it — the hallmark of effective facial exercise results which look like natural youth rather than cosmetic intervention!
What I Practice Now:
The full 8 minute sequence every morning without exception — I do it while waiting for chai to brew and it has become as automatic as brushing teeth!
The cumulative effect over 4 months is now genuinely visible in photographs — a lifted quality around cheeks and jaw that was not present before!
Facial yoga is the anti-aging intervention that costs nothing, requires nothing, takes 8 minutes and produces effects that no topical product can replicate because it addresses the structural foundation rather than the surface!
Your face has 57 muscles that have never been exercised! Start today! 🧘
